Music Video Evaluation

Overall, I found filming and editing the music video Starstrukk by 3Oh3. Even though it was fun, in my opinion I thought it was a challenge because there were things which required a lot of effort and patience. Firstly, you had to consider who is going to take part in the video, which for our particular video was hard due to the huge amount of people involved in the original video. Moreover, the location of the video was during the day near a fountain, so it couldn’t be filmed during college, therefore meaning people would have to be willing to use some of their spare time in order to shoot and not many people would do that. Despite me not being there to film because I was working, the other people which were in my group filmed the video in Queens Gardens in the town centre, and by what they said I suspect that this was harder than expected too. They predicted they’d be filming for an hour, in the end they spent approximately 3 hours on filming.

After filming, the video had to be edited on Final Cut Pro. This was also time enduring as you had to crop the video so that the actions in the video matched to the correct words/tunes in the song. In addition to this it was hard to match the lip-reading which the characters performed to the song. Overall, from using this I have learn’t how to add effects such as zoom into the picture, which was useful and how to transform and crop images in order to allow the video to show specific parts which you need. Moreover, I have learn’t how to allow the original song to be played in the background of the video.

If I were to change anything about the Music Video it would have been to get involved more. I helped filming a few shots during college time, and obviously I couldn’t film because I was busy but I feel as if I could have spent more time editing the video  rather than doing story boards and playing the video over and over again. Also, I feel that we needed to get more shots because there were a few errors during the video, e.g in one of the shots one of the boys was wearing a necklace the next shot he wasn’t, and also one of the shots was filmed the wrong way. In addition to this, some of the shots were repeated, which I think personally we should have made them more varied.

Another thing, that as a team we found hard was deciding which song to do a re make of. There were four songs we was stuck between: Sia Chandelier, Problem by Ariana Grande, Gotye somebody that I used to know and Starstrukk, which we chose. We chose Starstrukk because we felt that all the other videos were boring and didn’t have any action in them except Gotye Somebody that I used to know and that would have been too much of a challenge as it would of required a lot of props we didn’t have.
